The VP of Strategic Finance at Poppy will be our first hire to oversee finance and accounting at Poppy. This leadership position reports to the CEO.

Poppy is a fully distributed company. All Poppy employees are expected to participate in building our unique remote culture by coming to work prepared to listen, experiment, collaborate, and execute. Occasional (up to 4x per year) travel may be required.

Your Responsibilities

• Manage the operating model
• Create ad-hoc financial and operating models to support decision-making
• Manage closing the books at the end of each period
• Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
• Work cross-functionally to implement business processes to support these tasks
• Ensure that Poppy files and pays federal and local taxes where necessary
• Work with department heads to develop and track budgets and KPIs that reflect the financial model and growth goals of the business
• Assist the CEO in fundraising activities
• Prepare materials for monthly and quarterly updates to the board
• Prepare materials for internal discussion of financial and operational KPIs
• As growth dictates, lead the hiring of members of the finance function
• Participate in interviews for other positions as needed

Onboarding goals:

First 30 Days:

• Take ownership of the financial and operating model
• Wind down Poppy's outsourced strategic finance function

First 60 days:

• Select tools for managing accounting and financial modeling
• Decide whether the existing financial/operating model can be used and bring it up to your standard or rebuild it

First 90 days:

• Work with VP of Technology and department heads to update or rebuild KPI dashboards to match the financial model
• Complete transfer/update of accounting processes to new tools and resources

What You Need:

• Previous experience in corporate finance, corporate development, FP&A, investment banking, management consulting, or a strategic field
• Extensive experience in building and adapting financial models
• Effective communication skills
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
• Ability to thrive in a high growth, entrepreneurial, and ambiguous environment where strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities are a must.
• Tenacity to develop ideas independently and thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.
• Bachelor's degree, plus 5+ years of experience in finance, data analytics or strategy with a track record of success
